(july 17, 2014) went with dr neal to the boca raton museum of art (mizner park) to see whatever exhibition was currently on. there were 3 including the museum’s own which was selections from its collections.
the one that interested me most was ‘afghan rugs: the contemporary art of central asia’. hm. i don’t think that these rugs represented the totality of contemporary art in central asia, especially since the rugs were made by weavers from afghanistan and nw pakistan. the blurb the museum page carries, is clearly an unnecessary over the top description. i wonder why the necessity to lie. i guess that’s what goes for marketing.
anyway, the rugs were very interesting especially as many of the rugs documented parts of the soviet invasion in the late 70s-80s.
i also found interest in the works of roberto matta. pity there were only a few pieces on exhibit.
the museum’s selection also had some interesting pieces.
this exhibition ends in a few weeks making way for the annual all florida exhibition which opens august 10. i would recommend this show but preferably on ‘free thursdays’. yes, thursdays are free entry to the museum. woohoo!
